The Snowman soars again at Tampere Hall
For four decades, the animated film The Snowman (1982) has marked the beginning of the Christmas season for many children. In Tampere Hall’s highly anticipated family film concerts, the animation is shown on the big screen, accompanied live by music composed by Howard Blake and performed by Tampere Academic Symphony Orchestra (TASO), conducted by Kimmo Tullila.
The animation tells the story of young James and his Snowman’s nighttime adventure. It is based on Raymond Briggs’ picture book of the same name and its original illustrations. Faithful to the book, the film tells the Snowman’s story without words.
The magical atmosphere of the animation is created by music composed by Howard Blake, known as a pianist, composer, and conductor. His extensive body of work includes film scores as well as orchestral and stage music. The music for The Snowman is his best-known work, and its touching signature song, Walking in the Air, has been performed by numerous artists around the world in various arrangements.
About TASO

It collaborates actively with cultural organizations in the Pirkanmaa region and with leading figures of the Finnish music scene, ranging from established soloists to promising young talents.
