Hector is celebrating his unique 60-year career and the beloved body of work cherished by the entire nation!
The solo career of Hector, considered one of the cornerstones of Finnish popular music, began with the release of the single Palkkasoturi in January 1966. The debut single by the young high school student climbed to the top of the Finnish charts and launched an impressive career that has now spanned six decades.
Having released numerous albums since the early 1970s, Hector’s best-known songs include Ake, Make, Pera ja mä, Asfalttiprinssi, Ei mittään, Jos sä tahdot niin, Juodaan viinaa, Kuunnellaan vaan taivasta, Lumi teki enkelin eteiseen, Mandoliinimies, Nostalgia, and Yhtenä iltana.
Hector’s music is known for its powerful lyrics and socially conscious themes, while its stylistic range extends from rock and folk to progressive expression. His poetic and thought-provoking lyrics have inspired several generations, and many of his songs have become part of Finland’s cultural heritage. In addition to his own material, Hector has also composed and written songs for numerous leading Finnish artists.
Having earned multiple gold and platinum records, Hector has also received many other honors and awards. He has been awarded, among others, four Emma Awards, the Finnish State Prize for Music, the Reino Helismaa and Juha Vainio Awards, and the Pro Finlandia Medal. In addition, he received the Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finland decoration in 2024. At the end of last year, Yle’s radio drama Asfalttiprinssin tie, based on Hector’s life, quickly found a large audience.
