A unique combination of diatonic accordion, techno and throat singing!
Antti Paalanen's destiny as a wild accordionist was sealed by a happy accident: young Antti walked into a music shop in Alavus with his heart set on an electric guitar, but instead his attention was captured by a beautiful and fascinating accordion.
There was no turning back. Today, Paalanen, who lives in Kokkola, captivates audiences around the world with his unique combination of diatonic accordion, techno and throat singing. His surprising cover videos have attracted millions of views on social media.
Antti Paalanen's musical fusion has evolved naturally. Even as a child, he was equally fascinated by accordion lessons at his local adult education centre and the music of Kiss, W.A.S.P. and AC/DC, which he discovered through MTV. After completing his military service, Paalanen immersed himself in the world of folk music at the Sibelius Academy, exploring everything from traditional Finnish runo singing to improvisation. During his doctoral studies, he composed new music for the diatonic accordion.
Along the way, he also discovered throat singing rooted in Mongolian tradition, incorporating the technique into his deep, growling vocals. This distinctive formula has already produced five solo albums, the latest being Haitarimarinadi (2026), as well as numerous recordings with various ensembles.
Together with his sound engineer Samuli Volanto, Antti Paalanen has toured across Europe, North America, China, Russia and Japan. On stage, Paalanen's one-man band creates a massive, pulsating blend of bass, harmony, melody and beats.
More often than not, his concerts end with the audience continuing to sing his hypnotic songs in a state of euphoria long after the music has stopped.
Programme subject to change.
