Among the Living – An Evening with Mikko Kuustonen & Kymi Sinfonietta
Singer-songwriter Mikko Kuustonen fulfills a dream as he takes the Huvila stage as a soloist with the Kymi Sinfonietta. In this unique evening, audiences will hear his most familiar songs alongside new material, all arranged for a large classical orchestra.
”For me, the core of music lies in the atmosphere. I trust in simple melodies, stories, and the magic created in the interaction between the musicians and the audience. With a classical orchestra, this is multiplied, and the songs are reborn,” Mikko states.
The works are arranged by Anssi Växby and Valtteri Laurell Pöyhönen. The concert is conducted by Kuustonen’s long-time collaborator, saxophonist Jukka Perko, with Varre Vartiainen on guitar.
The friends want to build a spontaneous and unforgettable experience for both the audience and themselves: ”We love unique moments with music; we talk a lot and learn from each other. We intend to share these experiences and stories during our concert,” Mikko says.
The concert, which includes an intermission, is a tribute to Mikko Kuustonen’s versatile artistic journey and a bold step into the new.
”Fifty years have passed since I wrote my first song, and I still experience the birth of every song as a miracle. When writing, I am alone, but on stage, I am part of a magnificent group and a flow that makes the songs real. At the legendary Huvila, I am especially looking forward to the moment when the song 'Talvipuutarha' (Winter Garden) comes home.”
