Angélique Kidjo – Hope Tour, Värttinä
A true favorite of the Helsinki Festival audience with several past sold-out performances to her name, Angélique Kidjo makes a spectacular return to Helsinki. She arrives to introduce her upcoming album Hope, set for release in April, featuring stellar guest appearances by artists such as Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, Emeli Sandé, Davido, and Gwen Stefani.
Kidjo is a fixed star of West African music, visionarily blending traditional sounds and pop with afrobeat, dancehall, hip-hop, and R&B. The five-time Grammy winner, who also performed at the opening ceremony of the Africa Cup of Nations, returns to her beloved Huvila. With her extraordinary voice and radiant stage charisma, she promises an experience that glides effortlessly between genres. Opening the night is the polyphonic and sparking Värttinä, whose expression, rooted in Karelian traditions, sets the evening’s tone with the fascinating shades of folk music.
