Pikku Papun Orkesteri is a children’s music group that has been composing and performing music for children since 2012, delighting audiences of all ages across Finland. The orchestra’s songs are created in collaboration with author and illustrator Liisa Kallio.
Welcome to Tampere Hall for a live illustration concert by Pikku Papun Orkesteri and Liisa Kallio, inviting children and adults alike to experience the joy of language and imagination together. Liisa Kallio’s beloved illustrations come to life through live drawing during the concert, tickling the funny bone and giving wings to the songs!
For over a decade, Pikku Papun Orkesteri’s energetic performances, acoustic instruments, rich vocal harmonies, and playful arrangements inspired by various musical styles have melted the hearts of both young and older listeners alike. At a Pikku Papun Orkesteri concert, even the youngest family members can join in with the songs and games. Cheering and dancing are also allowed – even encouraged!
The orchestra performs actively in daycare centres as well as large concert halls and public events. Many people know Pikku Papun songs from Yle TV2’s Pikku Kakkonen, the Musarullaa concert series, and Pikku Papun Aakkoset (Yle), a 29-episode series featuring Pikku Papun alphabet songs alongside Liisa Kallio’s delightful live illustrations.
The orchestra has released three albums: Pikku Papun laulut (Tammi, 2012), Pikku Papun Orkesteri (Tammi, 2016), and Pikku Papun aakkoslorut (Tammi, 2024). Pikku Papun aakkoslorut is also available on all streaming platforms.
Pikku Papun Orkesteri received the Early Childhood Music Teachers’ Children’s Album of the Year Award in 2012 and earned a nomination for the Emma Award for Children’s Album of the Year in 2016. In 2018, the orchestra received the Wihuri Foundation Recognition Award and was named Band of the Year at the Jellonagaala children’s music awards. At the 2024 Jellonagaala, the orchestra was nominated in four categories, and the collaboration between UMO Jazz Orchestra and Pikku Papun Orkesteri was awarded Children’s Music Achievement of the Year.
