Amanda Bergman & Sunnan
Singer-songwriter Amanda Bergman, who first rose to international prominence as the vocalist for the Swedish band Amason, has established herself as one of the most distinctive and compelling figures in Scandinavian indie music.
Often compared to Joni Mitchell, Bergman blends Nordic melancholy and folk with 1980s soft rock influences. Her songs explore themes of motherhood, loss, and life away from the city bustle. Possessing a voice that is both "oak-raspy" and heartbreakingly beautiful—as if weathered by the elements—Bergman has an exceptional ear for hauntingly memorable melodies. She arrives at Huvila to perform material from her widely acclaimed album embraced for a second as we die, released in January.
Opening this evening of top-tier Swedish indie is the five-piece band Sunnan. Their "spaghetti soul," inspired by Ennio Morricone’s film scores and vintage soul, grooves hypnotically, transporting the listener into a cinematic atmosphere.
